The Lorain County Office on Aging and the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad enjoyed a great start to the new year when they both received grants from the Lorain-Medina Rural Electric People Fund in January.
The People Fund board awarded the Office on Aging $3,000 toward their Meals on Wheels program in the southern satellite office in Wellington. They deliver meals to senior citizens who are homebound or have limited abilities to prepare meals for themselves.
The People Fund grant will provide over 800 meals for senior citizens living in townships served by LMRE, including Brighton, Huntington, Penfield, Pittsfield, and Wellington.
The People Fund board awarded the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad $9,557.58 to update the X-ray equipment as well as purchase two Wire Attack Piercer Probe (WASPP) kits and a tactical disruptor. Both the WASPP kit and disruptor are required tools, and all three of the items are essential to keeping squad members and the communities they protect safe.
