Residents, businesses, governmental institutions, schools and anyone else with unused electronic equipment are invited to a free and safe 1-day drop-off electronic recycling center at Lorain-Medina Rural Electric Cooperative (LMRE) at 22898 West Road, Wellington, OH 44090 from 11am-4pm on November 12th. LMRE has partnered with PCs for People, a national leader in digital inclusion that offers a free certified, secure electronic recycling service and whose mission is to provide affordable computers to low-income individuals. Any usable computers obtained through this service will have the data securely wiped using a NAID AAA certified process. These computers are then refurbished for distribution. Nonprofit organizations and those who qualify as low-income may inquire about eligibility to receive technology on November 12th by visiting www.pcsforpeople.org/eligibility or calling (216) 930-5741.
“This is an ideal program for LMRE to get involved with because it directly relates to one of our cooperative operating principles, concern for community,” said General Manager of LMRE, Ed VanHoose. “People can feel confident in the security of e-cycling their unused technology and feel good about it being repurposed for low-income families, nonprofits, schools and others who otherwise may not have access to any technology which is so critical for the digital world of today.”
PCs for People accepts nearly all electronic waste - including computers, peripherals, monitors, cables, drives, and more. Technology does not have to be in working condition. In addition to accepting electronic waste, PCs for People will also have technology available on November 12th including desktop computers starting at $30, laptops starting at $50, and wireless internet hotspots with $16 monthly service.
The drop-off and distribution location will be in the parking lot of LMRE 11am-4pm November 12th. Look for the PCs for People truck to drop off your unwanted technology or acquire refurbished devices.
