The Lorain-Medina Rural Electric People Fund held its quarterly meeting July 15, granting seven community organizations a total of $17,485.93.
The largest grants went to Lagrange Township Fire & Rescue ($3,495) for a new paratech bag, used to help lift heavy machinery or other items during emergency situations, and Lodi Fire Department ($3,042) for bulletproof vests and helmets for the squad.
Other organizations who received grants during the July meeting included the Ruggles Troy Youth League, Feeding Medina County, Wellington High School, Penfield Historical Society, and the Southern Lorain County Historical Society.
These seven grants bring the total distributed amount for 2020 to $59,429.06 for 24 grants, including two emergency grants to LMRE members who experienced devastating house fires.
The People Fund is funded through Operation Round Up, where members voluntarily have their monthly bills rounded up to the nearest dollar. Since its creation in 1999, 645 grants totaling over $1.6 million have been distributed to area organizations and individuals, all because of the generosity of LMRE members.
