Spencer residents traveling the streets of the Medina County village have probably noticed a new look. 
Starting in mid-June, Lorain-Medina Rural Electric Cooperative (LMRE) has been gradually replacing the village’s 75 older lights with higher-efficiency LEDs (light- emitting diodes). The new lighting should provide the residents of Spencer with better lighting and increase their nighttime safety, while using less electricity.

The village pays a monthly fee for each light while the cooperative maintains the lights. The new lights are expected to last significantly longer and reduce maintenance costs. 

Spencer Mayor Dan DeRossett had noticed the cooperative replaced four streetlights in the center of town and liked the enhanced lighting.  He asked LMRE to consider replacing the rest of the village’s lights. 
“LMRE has always been a pleasure to work with, and I commend them for taking on this task which provides a benefit to them, and to the village residents,” DeRossett said. 
The village of Spencer’s population is 774, and electricity is supplied by LMRE.
