In 2014, the board of trustees wanted to attract younger families to the annual meeting.

On a warm, sticky day, Family Fun Day attracted about 2,300 members and guests, which is slightly above the 10-year attendance average. The concept apparently worked, as 430 wristbands were issued to children. 
  

Family Fun Day is coming back in 2015. Festivities begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, at the Lorain County Fairgrounds in Wellington. 
   

“We wanted our younger members and even their children to see the benefits of belonging to an electric cooperative,” said President John Eaton. “We were very pleased with the results and hope more people will join us this year.”
   

The day’s activities will include bounce houses, pony rides, face painting, electrical safety demonstrations, COSI and a reptile show. The event is free for members. 
 

Registration begins at 1 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult member. All children will be given a wristband when their parents or grandparents register. Wristbands must be worn to enjoy the rides, bounce houses and special displays.
     

Member business displays and wellness booths will be open from 1 to 6 p.m. Homemade ice cream, drinks and snacks will be available for purchase throughout most of the day. Dinner from Big Dog’s Catering of Wellington will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. The menu has been changed to hamburgers and hot dogs plus the usual slice of a Mama Jo fruit pie. 
     

The business meeting will begin at 6 p.m. The three trustee candidates are running unopposed for three-year terms. Their biographical summaries are included on pages 20-20A.

In District 2, Jim McConnell of Pittsfield Township has been on the board since 1997. He serves as the board’s secretary. District 2 includes Camden, Henrietta, New Russia and Pittsfield townships in Lorain County and the few members who reside in Florence Township in Erie County. Judy Pickworth will begin her 10th year on the board representing LaGrange Township, which makes up District 5. District 8 is served by Keith Lowe of Homer Township. Like McConnell, he has been on the board since 1997 and currently serves as the board’s treasurer. District 8 includes Homer and Spencer townships, plus the Village of Spencer in Medina County and Canaan and Congress townships in Wayne County, plus the Village of Burbank.  
   

Members no longer vote at the annual meeting. In 2012, the Code of Regulations was changed to permit mail and online voting. Ballots were mailed to all members in mid-June. In order to be counted, they must be received by 11:59 a.m. Friday, July 17. Members are encouraged to vote online using the cooperative’s secure website, www.lmre.org.
